Doug Prawitt to discuss joy in progress at BYU devotional July 19

PROVO, Utah – Jul 18, 2011 – Doug Prawitt, the Glen Ardis Professor of Accountancy in the Marriott School of Management, will give the Brigham Young University devotional Tuesday, July 19, at 11:05 a.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

Prawitt's devotional address will be titled "Line Upon Line: Finding Joy in Progress."

Prawitt has been a professor at BYU since 1993. He is nationally recognized for his service to the accounting profession. In 2009 he completed a three-year appointment as a member of the American Institute of CPAs' Auditing Standards Board, which establishes professional standards for certified public accountants in the United States. He was recently appointed to serve a three-year term on the board of the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations, which establishes professional standards relating to internal control and risk management for all public companies in the United States.

Among other awards, Prawitt received the 2010 Best Paper Award and the Glen McLaughlin Prize for Research in Accounting Ethics from the University of Oklahoma as well as the Innovation in Accounting Education Award from the American Accounting Association in 2007.

Some of Prawitt's published works are featured in premier scholarly journals such as Issues of Accounting Education, Behavioral Research in Accounting, International Journal of Disclosure and Governance and The Accounting Review.

Prawitt received his doctorate in business administration from the University  of Arizona and his bachelor's and master's degrees in accounting from BYU.
