Glover Named New School of Accountancy Chair

Marriott School of Management Dean Gary Cornia announced the appointment of Steven M. Glover as chair of the Brigham Young University School of Accountancy. He will assume the position beginning May 1, succeeding Kevin Stocks, who was chair for nine years.

"We are indebted to Kevin for his many years of service and are pleased with the growth he brought to the program," Cornia says. "Looking forward, we are grateful that Steve has accepted this opportunity to lead the SOA. He is an accomplished and respected scholar and a gifted teacher."

Glover joined the Marriott School in 1994 and has been consistently recognized for his achievements in research and teaching, including receiving the Marriott School's Outstanding Teaching Award in 2009. Glover also served a year as president of the auditing section of the American Accounting Association and has been an editorial board member on multiple academic journals.

"BYU, the Marriott School and the School of Accountancy have been great to me, and I am very happy to give back and serve in any way I can," Glover says. "We have a strong accounting program with talented students, staff and faculty. Our job is to keep up the momentum in an effort to leave the program a little bit better for those who will follow us."

During Stocks' tenure, the School of Accountancy continued its streak of 17 straight years in the top three of the Public Accounting Report rankings. Under Stocks' leadership, the BYU SOA established the nation's largest accounting PhD preparation program and won the Innovations in Accounting Education Award from the American Accounting Association.

Stocks joined the faculty at BYU in 1983 and became department chair in 2003. He has taught graduate and undergraduate accounting and MBA courses, authored two books and published articles in several scholarly journals. He has also held numerous leadership positions in the American Accounting Association, including a year as president. Stocks was recipient of the 2009 Marriott School Outstanding Faculty Award.

The Marriott School is located at Brigham Young University, the largest privately owned, church-sponsored university in the United States. The school has nationally recognized programs in accounting, business management, public management, information systems and entrepreneurship. The school's mission is to prepare men and women of faith, character and professional ability for positions of leadership throughout the world. Approximately 3,000 students are enrolled in the Marriott School's graduate and undergraduate programs.
