BYU Marriott Students Win Big at AIS Competition

Though COVID-19 presented challenges for students competing in the annual Association for Information Systems (AIS) Student Chapter Leadership Conference this year—including not being able to compete in person—two teams of BYU Marriott information system (IS) students quickly, and successfully, adapted to this new and unexpected situation. At the national competition held 27 March, both teams placed second in the blockchain and software innovation categories respectively, with each team taking home a prize of $1,000.

Four SOA Alumni Recognized for High CPA Exam Scores

On 17 April 2020, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) announced the winners of the 2019 Elijah Watt Sells Award. This award is given to individuals who scored above an average of 95.5 across all four sections of the CPA exam. This year, four BYU Marriott School of Accountancy graduates qualified for the award.

Whether he’s building planter boxes to prepare for his family’s garden projects or creating a community that stimulates learning in the classroom, Clark Pixton strives to create spaces for growth. Pixton, who teaches analytical reasoning as an assistant professor of global supply chain, works as a teacher and a researcher to teach strategies that ultimately allow students to help organizations to function more effectively.

With a capacity of nearly 19,000 people, BYU’s Marriott Center can be an intimidating place to play a basketball game. As BYU’s basketball teams take on and defeat some of the best teams in the country, students hold up signs and fans cheer from all directions, pouring down deafening noise on opponents. Earlier this year, before COVID-19 closed down campus, BYU Marriott entrepreneurship senior Bradley Pilkington documented this scene for social media.

A Future of Military Service: BYU Air Force and Army ROTC Commissioning Ceremonies

On 23 April 2020, five BYU Marriott Army ROTC cadets commissioned into the US Army in person at BYU during individual small ceremonies broadcast over Facebook Live while ten additional cadets commissioned in a group commissioning ceremony via virtual conference call. In addition to these fifteen Army ROTC cadets, Air Force ROTC cadets will commission into the Air Force on 15 May through virtual conference calls or in-person with audiences of less than ten people.

BYU Marriott strategy alum Eli Tucker isn’t afraid to make changes to his life plan as he goes. As an incoming freshman, he was set on studying computer science, but he then changed his career path to business strategy. More recently, he made the decision to step away from his position at one of the world’s biggest companies in order to travel the world. Now that the coronavirus pandemic has delayed his world trip, he’s once again adapting his plan. Through it all, he is learning to find happiness in the moment.
