PROVO, Utah – Jun 12, 2018 – Brigham Young University Academic Vice President Jim R. Rasband has announced that Michael P. Thompson has been named interim dean of the BYU Marriott School of Business. Steve Glover and Keith Vorkink will continue to serve as associate deans.

Thompson will serve as interim dean from 1 July 2018 through 31 December 2018. Brigitte C. Madrian, recently announced as the new BYU Marriott dean, will then begin her term at the start of the new year.

“I am grateful to Michael for his willingness to serve,” Rasband said. “His vast experience, deep understanding of the administration of BYU Marriott, and his equally deep love for his colleagues, the students, and the university will be a blessing to all during this interim period.”

Thompson holds a bachelor’s degree in Greek from BYU in addition to a master’s degree in technical communication and a doctorate in rhetorical studies with a specialty in organizational communication from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York. A member of the BYU Marriott faculty since 1988, Thompson taught graduate-level management communication courses before serving six years as the chair of the Department of Organizational Leadership and Strategy. Thompson has served as an associate dean at BYU Marriott for the last thirteen years and was the recipient of the 2017 BYU Marriott School of Business Outstanding Faculty Award.
