Accreditation

Both programs in the Experience Design and Management Department are fully accredited by COAPRT. See below for more information regarding this accreditation. 

Accredited Programs

The experience industry management and therapeutic recreation programs are accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Parks, Recreation, Tourism and Related Professions (COAPRT). COAPRT accredits baccalaureate programs in parks, recreation, tourism, sport management, event management, therapeutic recreation, and leisure studies offered at regionally accredited institutions within the United States and its territories and at nationally accredited institutions in Canada and Mexico.

Assessment Plan

Recreation management faculty will meet twice each year to review learning outcome assessments from the previous semester. Experience industry management and therapeutic recreation coordinators, in concert with the department chair, will schedule an extended meeting time and place in February and June of each year. Faculty will be responsible to gather and report results for performance measures associated with classes they teach. In these learning outcomes assessment meetings, faculty will present the results of performance measures and a general discussion will consider course and program improvements to be made based on assessment results and other available data. The performance results and plans for continuous program improvement will then be combined by program coordinators and finalized into an assessment of learning outcomes document made available to all faculty. The results and program improvements will also be added to the university learning outcomes wiki by the department chair.

It is expected that tests used in these assessment processes are to be used solely for the purpose of measuring student learning outcomes. Results are not to be used for instructor performance evaluations or other unrelated or tangentially related purposes. Further, in order to be in compliance with the Family Education Right to Privacy Act, no scores or data will be reported that could be linked with an individual student.

Degree & Accreditation Mills

Please watch this important video regarding degree and accreditation mills. According to CHEA, “Degree mills and accreditation mills mislead and harm. In the United States, degrees and certificates from mills may not be acknowledged by other institutions when students seek to transfer or go to graduate school. Employers may not acknowledge degrees and certificates from degree mills when providing tuition assistance for continuing education. ‘Accreditation’ from an accreditation mill can mislead students and the public about the quality of an institution. In the presence of degree mills and accreditation mills, students may spend a good deal of money and receive neither an education nor a useable credential.” Read more on CHEA’s website.
