Biography:

Gary Christensen has worked as a GIS Professional and Cartographer for over 25 years, mainly for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Prior positions include the Salt Lake City Planning Department, the Utah Transit Authority, and Olympus Aerial Survey. Currently, he manages the Church’s Geographic Information Portal - a tool which supports inter-departmental spatial analysis, mapping, data sharing, and collaboration. The variety of projects, changes in technology, and navigating information governance policies have kept him very engaged in this exciting field.

Gary grew up in Cottonwood Heights, UT which, at that time, was full of open space for a boy to explore. This is where he developed his love for the outdoors. Playing hard as a kid turned into working hard as a youth to pay for most of his mission and education. He completed a BS in Geography at the University of Utah (1994) then added the BYU EMPA (2015).

Gary and his wife Elizabeth have raised their six children in Layton, Utah, where they plan to stay. They thoroughly enjoy being the grandparents of three, with hopes of many more to come.
