Biography:

Since 2002, Koreen has worked as a fiscal advisor for the past four Governors (Davis, Schwarzenegger, Brown, and Newsom) at the Budget at California’s Department of Finance. She has worked on over 150 budgets and had direct responsibility for over 60 budgets.

She has served in many assignment areas including corrections, courts, state infrastructure bonds, and employee compensation/benefits. She has been a supervisor since 2006 and been on committees working towards streamlining government (in one case, eliminating a practice that has been used since WWII). One of her favorite roles has been representing the Governor in bargaining and negotiating with the state’s 21 different bargaining units that represent over 250,000 employees.

Koreen loves her husband, life, travel, the outdoors, and enjoying the beautiful world, culture, food, and people around her. She has traveled to more than 45 different countries (with a BYU internship in South Africa) and loves the intensified learning. She enjoys cycling, has completed one century ride (Bike around the Buttes, a 100+ mile ride), and has raced in more than 15 triathlons. She completed the Deseret News Marathon in 1998 and is convinced that writing about this experience is what got her into the Master of Public Administration (MPA) program at BYU. She graduated from BYU in 2002, with her MPA (emphasis: Finance) and in 2000, with an undergraduate degree in Community Health (minor: International Development).

Koreen strives to be comfortable with feeling uncomfortable and loves to learn and try new things.
