Two Students Go the Extra Mile
Each Tuesday at 11 a.m. Brett Sampson and Amy LaBaugh board the shuttle in Rexburg,
Idaho. Their destination? The BYU Salt Lake Center. They'll arrive just in time for their EMPA
classes that begin at 5 p.m. After sitting through five hours of class, they're back on the 10 p.m.
shuttle that arrives in Rexburg anywhere between 2 and 4 a.m. on Wednesday morning,
depending on the weather.
Now that's going the extra mile ... or maybe 200 extra miles.

Marriott School Professor Wins National Tax Award
Gary Cornia’s face lights up when he talks about his work in taxes. “I love the topic I research,” he says. “Taxes are the funnest thing in the world. I love coming to work.”
Cornia’s enthusiasm for and dedication to state and local finance and tax policy has garnered national recognition. The National Tax Association presented him with the 2006 Stephen D. Gold Award in December. More.
NFC Champ Tackles MPA
When Ifo Pili graduates next spring, his résumé will not only list the Houston Texans, Philadelphia Eagles, and New England Patriots, it will also include an MPA degree. For Pili, member of the 2005 Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl team, playing defensive tackle in the NFL was just one of his life’s goals. Now, after being released from the NFL for injuries, Pili is back at his alma mater.
