Following are answers to frequently asked questions about admission
into the accounting program:

How important is the GPA for the prerequisite classes?
The prerequisite class GPA is the single most important item in the
admissions decision. However, we also give serious consideration to the
following: overall grade point average; the content of the personal
statement; the total number of credit hours already completed; and,
comments from professors.

Can I repeat classes to increase my prerequisite class GPA?
Yes, but to discourage this practice, a repeat grade is discounted one
letter grade; for example, a repeat grade of A is calculated as a B.

Can I transfer a class from another school to be used in the
prerequisite class GPA?
Yes, but the calculation of a transferred grade is discounted one step;
for example, a transfer grade of B+ from another school is calculated
as a B in the algorithm.

How difficult is it to gain admission into the accounting program?
We expect to receive 300-400 applications and we are allowed to accept
265 students.

How high must my prerequisite class GPA be to gain admission?
The scores are different each year, but in general, somewhere between a
B+ to an A- or better is necessary to be in the top 265 applications.

If I am admitted into the accounting program, how do I register for
my classes?
Registration for Jr. Core classes is the same as registration for other
classes at BYU except that you can register only at a certain time
which will be given to you in your admissions materials.

How are students assigned to the morning or afternoon classes and
into study groups?
As with registration for other classes at BYU, students select classes
on a first-come-first-served basis. Study groups are assigned by the
Jr. Core faculty coordinator.
