Move over, USA Today. It’s time to add another app to the favorites list — the iPad version of Marriott Alumni Magazine. Looking to increase convenience and ease of access for readers, the Marriott School of Management released the digital edition including the current issue and all 2012 issues.

Marriott School Professor Presented with BYU’s Top Award

Three members of the Marriott School of Management's faculty and staff were honored at Brigham Young University's annual University Conference on August 20. The university's most prestigious faculty award was presented to finance professor J. Michael Pinegar. Associate accounting professor Cassy Budd and MBA program assistant Christine Roundy were also recognized.

Glover Named New School of Accountancy Chair

Marriott School of Management Dean Gary Cornia announced the appointment of Steven M. Glover as chair of the Brigham Young University School of Accountancy. He will assume the position beginning May 1, succeeding Kevin Stocks, who was chair for nine years.

Before that objective can be accomplished, however, they must first meet the qualifications to enter the field. A recent statistic — CPA exam pass rate — reveals that BYU is doing this better than any of the other top-10 accounting programs.

Marriott School Associate Dean Receives Outstanding Faculty Award

James D. Stice, associate dean, received the 2012 Outstanding Faculty Award, the highest distinction from the Marriott School of Management at its annual awards night. Another 15 faculty, staff and administrators were also honored at the event.

Financial Times Rates BYU HR and Accounting Teaching No. One

The Brigham Young University MBA program has two big reasons to celebrate with the Financial Times rating both human resources and accounting teaching number one worldwide. The Times' teaching rank comes from a survey of alumni. The London-based paper also ranked BYU's MBA program 98th in its Global MBA Ranking 2012.

Since 1965 BYU's Gamma Alpha chapter of Beta Alpha Psi has been serving on campus and in the Provo community. This year it reached out to a new audience — local high school students — a move that made it stand out from 270 international applicants to win $5,000 and the first-ever Beta Alpha Psi 2011 Ethics Award.

Career Initiative Boosts Job Placement

This year hundreds more Marriott School of Management graduates were hired than in 2010, resulting from an intensified focus on placement and a slowly recovering economy. Placement rates increased by 14 percent for graduate degrees and five percent for undergraduate degrees in 2011, reaching 91 percent and 76 percent, respectively.

The Marriott School of Management presented Michael Swenson, Ford Motor Company Professor of Marketing, with its highest distinction — the 2011 Outstanding Faculty Award — at the annual Marriott School Awards Night held March 9. In addition to Swenson, 14 others were recognized for their dedicated service to the school.
